Downton Abbey has taken America by storm. In fact, the surprising success of the show has affected tourism in England, the publishing industry in America, and, of course, the market for related items for those Downton Abbey lovers who need their aristocracy fix between seasons and episodes. I am a huge Masterpiece Theater fan, and I am so glad that for the first time, it seems a huge part of the American public has taken notice of it. But don't stop there! If you loved Downton Abbey, check out some of the following:
1. Island at War. You'll even see Bates' girlfriend Anna in there.
2. The Buccaneers. An oldie, but a goodie. You'll stop feeling as sorry for Lady Mary's dismal marriage choice.
3. Want to know about the REAL Downton Abbey? Check out this book about Highclere Castle, the castle portrayed as Downton Abbey.
4. One of my favorite series from PBS is Foyle's War.
5. The recent remake of Upstairs, Downstairs was fabulous.
6. And I personally love the PBS shows where ordinary people are essentially taken back in time to see how life really was. It absolutely worked to cure me of any romantic fondness for the idea of time travel. (The 1900 House, 1940s House, Manor House, etc.)
And who else is SUPER excited about Shirley McClane starring on Downton Abbey next season?
