Why did the peacock cross the road? To annoy the residents of Winter Park, Florida.
I was driving my friend Heather home about a week ago and these guys were hanging out in the middle of her street.
Peacocks have a special history in Winter Park. Apparently the daughter of the town's founder brought a couple of peacocks here, and basically they annoyed everyone. She tried to move them to a less populous part of town. I guess they loved the central Florida sunshine, because they went forth and multiplied, and now current residents have to put up with the strutting beauties. Beauties that have terrible tempers, will attack dogs, are noisy, especially in the mornings, and will not get out of the way even when you honk your horn numerous times. They are beautiful creatures, though, and definitely add a unique quality to Winter Park.
