A Little Help For A Great Cause

As some of y'all know, Chris and I volunteer at Give Kids the World, an AMAZING organization in Orlando. GKTW is a fairy-tale styled village located a couple of miles from Disney World, where kids from all over the world who suffer from life-threatening illnesses can come, with their families, for a magical Disney experience. It's entirely free for them, and GKTW provides food and lodging, along with a million fun things for the kids to do. Disney provides free tickets, and they send their princesses and characters to GKTW to meet and mingle with the children.

So far, Chris and I have operated the carousel at GKTW, worked in the ice-cream shop, played video games with the kids, worked in the kitchen for dinner service, and just generally tried to make ourselves useful. And I was able to work one night in the spa, giving manicures and doing makeup for some of the kids. So much fun!

I have never found an organization even half as well-run as GKTW. It was founded by a Holocaust survivor who became wealthy in Orlando from a hotel chain. He wanted to give back, so he and his family created the organization. It awes and humbles me daily to imagine how much he has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and their families.

But GKTW, like most charitable organizations, is financially feeling the pinch of the Recession, and could use some help. They are in the running to win an autographed American Idol guitar to auction. Please take a second to click on this link and vote for Give Kids the World!
